The science

The hardener is aldehyde based. Aldehyde hardeners work by linking the keratin proteins in your nail plate more tightly together, which reinforces thin, bending nails and helps them resist splitting. The catch is that any hardener used on its own can slowly dry the nail out, so the set pairs it with a cuticle oil that puts the moisture back.
